What you think shapes your life.

That’s because what you think shapes your behavior, which indirectly controls the way your life unfolds.

If you think you’re no good for example, then not only will you not take any chances, but you might also actually miss opportunities that appear in your life.

You’ll focus on things that could go wrong instead and this will make you feel worse about yourself in the long run.  Trust me, I know.

If you think you’re bad at your job, you won’t speak up in meetings, you’ll keep your head down, and you might even be less prone to taking charge when you should!

Affirmations

In the case of having thoughts like ‘I’m always losing’, you now know that you’re only ‘losing’ in life because you keep thinking you’re a loser.  You’re NOT A LOSER!

In fact, I want you to say this out loud:

[headline style=”1″ font_size=”50″ font_style=”bold” align=”center” headline_tag=”h2″ top_margin=”0″ bottom_margin=”0″]I am a winner!

[/headline]

If you actually did say that out loud, I want you to really think about how it makes you feel when you say it.  Say it again if you must.

You will no longer allow to let negativity dictate the life of abundance that you deserve to live, right?

Likewise having a thought like ‘good things never happen to me’ is self-perpetuating.  Ask yourself genuinely what your skills and assets are. Be objective and ask others if necessary.

Chances are you will find that you’re just as capable as everyone else so the only thing that could be bringing you down is your own negativity.  Accept this and replace those thoughts.

You can also use positive affirmations in order to improve your opportunities.

These are statements you repeat to yourself like ‘I’m a successful and positive person’ or like my example above ‘I am a winner!’

Over time, if you repeat these enough they can become ingrained and a part of your psyche. If you struggle to remember to use them, consider putting post-it notes up around your home.

This might seem like it wouldn’t accomplish much, but by constantly exposing yourself to these positive messages, you will be repeating the same thoughts over and over and actually strengthening the neural pathways in the brain that are responsible for creating them.

As these thoughts and new neural pathways become strengthened, they will become more likely to be activated in the future.  Believe it or not this has been proven with science:

In short, having these positive thoughts can actually become a habit.

Thought Restructuring

There are other more powerful methods you can use to transform thoughts too. One of these is to use “thought challenging.”

This means looking at the content of your thoughts and assessing whether it’s accurate.  Could it be true that you just can’t seem to win?  Sure, but that’s ultimately up to you…

If you are so bad at your job, how is it that you haven’t been fired yet?  If you did get fired, that doesn’t even mean you are necessarily a loser either.

Thinking in a positive through these situations is a challenge, but I can assure you that if you do this instead you will recognize increased improvements in your life.

You need to give yourself more credit by thinking, “They just didn’t realize my potential.”

By doing this you’re still keeping the ball of opportunity and promise of hope in your hands.

In society today, we are seeing more and more people continuing to give up when they are faced with challenges and I reckon it has something to do with this negative self-talk.

Another trick is something called hypothesis testing. Here, you actually put those negative beliefs to the test in order to prove to yourself they’re inaccurate or flat out LIES.

For example, take on a big project at work and prove to yourself that you can do it!

Using these techniques, you can learn to change your beliefs and that’s when your mind will start becoming stronger, happier, and you will begin seeing changes in your world from having these positive thoughts.

For me, my biggest help in overcoming the negative thoughts was through growing in my spirituality and having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
